Alexia (vocals/guitar) and Anissa (bass) are triple threats, vocally talented, instrumentally inclined and well to say it frankly, sexy. I'm not the only one who thinks so either. In early 2010 both Anissa and Alexia were nominated for a Revolver Magazine Golden Gods award in the "Hottest Chicks In Metal" category. But if you think it's only their looks that are getting them attention, your wrong. Their first album "Reach" that debut in 2008 quickly became a top selling CD in Hot Topic stores and online cites such as SmartPunk. Not only did their first album make an impression on critics and headbangers, but so did their sophomore album "The World Outside", which reached number nine on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. Now, i've listened to their other albums but none of them are as polished and refined as "Broken Frames". This band continuously challenges themselves and most definitely doesn't like to stay on the path most traveled. Alexia, in this album, sang a whole octave higher than she did in the previous albums. That's the kind of change of pace that bands need to take to become their best, and it's working out for them. With the rough male screaming vocals; done by Cisko, and the soft female voice (Alexia) that can easily sing you to sleep, makes for an odd, but beautiful combination. They also included an intimate piano break in the middle of the album rightfully called, "Catch Your Breath",which leads into "Ryan". It fuses a dark and downcast rhythm and lonely melodic lyrics that express the loss of someone with hope of them staying ("...well I guess life isn't any fun with no one to hold, will you be there in the morning?"). If your in the mood for some more despondent songs, then "Let Me In" is a somber tune that is relatable to anyone longing for a lover. Don't get them wrong though, their album isn't all emo and wrist cutting. Their song "Broken Frames" has to be my favorite song on the album. With male shouting vocals mixed with grizzly screaming and Alexia's rich voice, it gives me a rush and really shows how accomplished they are. Compared to their other albums this is by far the most matured and proficient album. There's no telling how far this band will go, but with a spot in the 2010 Warped Tour, I'm sure their popularity and fan base will grow exponentially. |
