I can't quite put my finger on it, but Banner Hill has a sort of presence thats grabs my attention immediately. Maybe it's the gloriously inspirational song "Longshot" that had me fixing to take a chance on a seemingly impossible dream. It's a great song to kick off the rest of the EP, uplifting and ridiculously catchy it had me urning for another bite. What really surprised me was the most random hardcore break down that took place towards the end of the song. What was even more surprising, was how it flowed so graciously with the song... and anything hardcore is far away from gracious, but they seems to get it right the first time. It gives Banner Hill a cut about the rest with their more than catchy rhythms that have an attitude and strength that only the hardcore sprinkled songs can provide. They're more ballad esque' song "Why Should I Apologize" has lyrics written like poetry, about trying to get back to where things were right in their life, and fighting to not stray away from their path back "home." They are versatile and have just about anything you could want in a rock band. Their EP has a good mix of rough, pit starting breakdowns, fist pumping anthems, and popish chorus'. The talent bounces out of speakers and will knock you off your feet. By adding Logan (last name is unknown) on bass and a drummer (who remains unrecognized on there myspace page) the band is complete with a handful of skilled members. It will leave you feeling like your soul just received a replenishing back rub. It will inspire you and have your beaten up spirit renewed. Their motive is clear and powerful; to make their listeners take positive thoughts with them, long after the EP has stopped playing. They have mastered their EP, now I want to see them shine in a full-lenghted album. |

I can't help but feel a little bit of nostalgia when I hear this band. Front woman Liz Hill, has an echoing sting of that of a familiar Orange County native, Gwen Stefani. The vocal similarities are appropriate though, after all they both share the same hometown. But Banner Hill is far from the ska beginnings of No Doubt. Originally a songwriting duo between her and her best friend, Matthew Lindbald, these multi-instrumental pals got their start in 2009 with their Beautiful.Dangerous EP.
