Sublime with Rome Coming to Southern California

Sublime with Rome (SWR) fans in the Southern California area will have a reason to be excited this November as SWR will play two concerts in the region. On Thursday, November 4th Sublime with Rome will perform at the San Manuel Casino in Highland. Eight days later, on Friday, November 12th, SWR will play the Valley View Casino Center (formerly known as the San Diego Sports Center) in San Diego. The Dirty Heads, a band praised by Rolling Stone as one of the best new bands of 2010, will be opening both Southern California dates.

Original Sublime band members, drummer Bud Gaugh and bassist Eric Wilson, team with vocalist Rome Ramirez to make up SWR. Sublime with Rome energizes crowds with old Sublime favorites, like “Santeria” and “Wrong Way,” while also infusing new music into their set lists. The familiar guitar chords to old Sublime hits foster excitement from live crowds. Many times audiences meet Ramirez’s vocals with a sing-a-long echo. “Careless Me Down” serves as the only song Ramirez won’t give crowds an opportunity to echo. Ramirez explained in an interview with Spinner he doesn’t feel comfortable singing “Careless Me Down” due to the song’s lyric “Me llamo Bradley.” Bradley refers to Brad Norwell, Sublime’s original singer, who passed away from a heroin overdose in 1996.

SWR fans’ liveliness provides a memorable atmosphere for Sublime with Rome concerts. In a press release, AEG Florida concert promoter Ethan Levinson recalled a recent SWR concert, stating “It has been a long time since I have seen people that excited about a show.” Levinson continued “You can imagine a sold out crowd of 5000 people with growing anticipation waiting for SWR to hit the stage and then the deafening scream when they played those first seven notes as they opened with ‘Date Rape.’ Epic is the only word I can use to describe it.”

Ramirez ensures any new music he creates fits the Sublime vibe by passing everything through Gaugh and Wilson first, according to Spinner. The current Sublime with Rome tour will likely showcase a nice mix of new SWR music as the group gears up to release a new studio album sometime next year. The band spent the end of September in the studio recording music for the new album. Amongst the music which will be included on the new album is “Panic,” Sublime with Rome’s first original single.

In regards to SWR’s opening act, The Dirty Heads seem to provide the perfect fit. Lead singer Jared Watson and guitarist Dustin Bushnell founded The Dirty Heads. Eventually they added percussionist Jon Olazabal, drummer Matt Ochoa, and bassist David Foral to complete their sound. The original Sublime serves as one of the band’s musical influences. Additionally, The Dirty Heads’ first hit, “Lay Me Down,” features Ramirez. Furthermore, The Dirty Heads’ Southern California fan base should compliment Sublime with Rome’s enthusiastic fan base well. The Dirty Heads come from Huntington Beach and did many local gigs throughout Southern California in order to get to where they are today.

Tickets for both Sublime with Rome and The Dirty Heads Southern California shows can still be purchased at Ticketmaster. Tickets for the November 4th San Manuel Casino concert can be purchased starting at $36.75 per ticket. Doors open at 8:00pm for the show. The San Manuel Casino acts strictly as a 21 and over venue. The price for tickets to the November 12th Valley View Casino Center show start at $25. Doors open for the Valley View Casino Center concert at 7:30pm. The earlier you buy your tickets the better off you will probably be. Live Nation Denver concert promoter Peter Ore recalled in a press release about ticket sales for Sublime with Rome’s summer show in Denver “In the final 48 hours, the ticket sales just completely caught fire and were the hottest tickets of the summer.”
