DJ DC attempts world record at Yost Theater

DJ DC (Rene Brunner) is living proof that if first you don't succeed, try, try again. He's no stranger to long DJ sets, but no DJ has ever spun records this long. The Austrian born DJ attempted to break the world’s longest DJ set last year at Pacific Festival but he didn't make it in to the Guinness World Book of Records.

According to Guinness World Book of Records, " He did register a claim with us but he never sent in evidence." The 121 hour set was disqualified.

How’s that for a spirit breaker?

But this didn't discourage him, if anything it gave him the drive to not only beat the record but demolish it. The record was held by DJ King at a staggering 120 hours and 19 minutes. DJ DC didn't even flinch at that number and attempted to beat the record by 30 hours!

This year's attempt was held at the Yost Theater in Santa Ana. The endurance marathon began October 2 at 7:30 PM and ended on October 8 at 7:30 PM. For DJ DC October 8 couldn't have come sooner. The Guinness World Record party was free and open to the public. By 8 PM confetti curtained the floor of the Skybox, and champagne bottles had all been opened. The balloons swayed in the air boasting the world record in gold wrapped helium in the shape of each number: 150.

The rules are were pretty stiff only giving him 5 minutes to rest each hour. But to make this attempt possible, he was able to accumulate these 5 minute breaks in to a solid hour break. There can't be more than 10 seconds of silence between songs and no music can be repeated within four hours.

To add on to the difficulty of this attempt there has to be at least one person in the audience dancing at all times with two separate witnesses as well. The whole attempt must be taped and sent in along with witness statements and any media articles.

I got a chance to speak with the over exhausted DJ DC after his record breaking party. He didn't have much of a reason for wanting to beat the record; he just shrugged his shoulders and said "Just because." He said that clubs in Austria close at 7 AM opposed to 2 AM like in the States, so long DJ sets weren’t foreign to him. With 600 CDs to work with he was able to keep the set somewhat diverse.

His life since the age 11 has been dominated by the ones and twos and just to show his dedication to the art he decided to finish out the weekend DJing at the Yost Theater- off the record. What a guy!    But seriously man, get some rest!

If you’re wondering if DJDC actually beat the record, so are we. We won’t know till the Guinness Book of World Records gets all supporting documentation and verifies that no rules were broken. It might take them a while to go through 120+ hours of video, paperwork ,etc so we will keep you posted.
