Drive A Makes Punk Rock Fun Again

I knew walking into the Bamboozle Road Show I only knew three bands, and with little time to get to know the other bands I was very surprised to say the least when the young group known as Drive A took the stage.

I think new blood is just what punk rock needs. It’s not like the scene is dead, or even close to it, but its been an elite scene for so long that newcomers pop up every day just to be gone a year later. These possible high school students are touring at the same age that I started listening to NOFX and Bad Religion.  They won’t be gone in a year.

Aside from their great obvious catchy lyrics and melodies that set’s this punk band apart from the others, is the band member’s age. I believe they are still in High School! But don’t let that turn you away.  At such a young age you sort of do what you want, say what you think (even before thinking it!), and just have fun and live life. That is EXACTLY what Drive A is doing. The Fun is so contagious you will possibly find yourself in the pit even if you have never done it before.

Of course, the Mosh pit is made that much more fun by lead singer Bruno Mascolo coming out of nowhere to end up in the middle of the crowd and start a large pit – which, sadly wasn’t as well received as it normally would have been but I think that is because of the Bamboozle crowd itself, mainly underage girls with their mothers watching from a distance.

But Drive A’s more-fun-then-crowd-at-bamboozle isn’t only about jumping in the crowd, its about playing music hard and fast, with a “Fuck You” attitude that is fun and exciting, and musical sound that can easily be heard on the radio over and over again. This exciting band had as much energy from their first note till they walked off stage, which is probably why they have already completed tours wich such bands as HIM, Alkaline Trio and Saves the Day!

Punk Rock has become fun again – even for us old folks!

Setlist: Loss of Desire, Everyone’s Alone, Head Underwater, Out of Focus, Hell With Motivation, Take a Side, Can't Sleep it Off, Are You Blind
