Warped Tour Live Review: Street Sweeper Social Club

It's no surprise that Street Sweeper Social Club (try saying that 5 times fast!) came out with guns ablaze, their explosive energy is something that can be matched up to the guitarist's (Tom Morello) previous band, you might of heard them, I think their called Rage Against The Machine?! Well, if you die hard Rage fans are upset about their break up, don't be. With their thought provoking lyrics and a rock solid sound they combine to make a head bobbing and fist pumping atmosphere. Now all you Rage Against The Machine fans don't get your panties in a bunch over their break-up a few years back, because after Tom Morello's stint with Audioslave, I think Morello has finally found the greener pastures he's been looking for with Street Sweeper Social Club.

This rap/rock ball of awesomeness is lead by rapper, Boots Riley who righteously preaches anthems for revolution. I had heard about their performance at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival this year, and how Morello's extravagant guitar playing was very Jimi Hendrix like, so I was ecstatic to get a chance to see them live. They stormed the stage in military uniform coats with their abbreviation SSSC patched on their arm, and a picture of the cover for their new EP, The Ghetto Blaster (due out August 10th, 2010) across their backs. They began their fiery set with a new song called Ghetto Blaster, which is on their soon to be released EP (as if the name didn't already give it away). After, they amused us with a boss rendition of "Paper Planes" (originally performed by M.I.A), which subsequently is one of my favorite songs, and my cynical ass was sure put on my ass after the first verse. And did I mention, they also covered "Momma Said Knock You Out" (originally by LL Cool J) ? Yeah that along with Morrello not only playing, but executing a perfect guitar solo with his mouth,

I think its safe to say this was the most entertaining performance of the day. Their is definitely no doubt about whether or not i'll be purchasing there EP in August.

And remember, there not just a band, they're a social club!
