Iration Plays Late Night At House Of Blues

Back when I used to frequent Isla Vista, well, let’s just say I don’t remember much of any of those evenings. I wasn’t even a student at UCSB, we would drive there just to go party. And party I did. It was a lot of fun. Not that I remember Iration, the band that started playing house parties in the party capital of California, Isla vista, but because it sort of explained the fun the House of Blues had watching them this last Friday.

I am not a big fan of reggae. Ska I can get into but reggae all sounds the same and is quite boring. I am just more of a rock/punk/ska/hip hop/rap/anything but country and reggae guy…. But this wasn’t as boring as I thought it would be. Maybe because it wasn’t the same old stuff that every reggae band before them has done, over and over again.

Lets call this reggae with energy, a bit of rock, and a lot of fun. After seeing these guys live its no wonder they have been listed in the top 5 itunes top selling albums worldwide, as well as their album, “Time Bomb” being listed on must buy lists from many musical magazines.

From before their set started, at around 11:30PM , security guards were already busy trying to find the pot smokers that kept filling the room with smoke. Fans screaming while the band was doing sound checks behind the curtain and when finally the curtain opened, a great intro to get the party started. Reggae with energy and talent.

From the first songs, “Electricity” and “Wait and See” the band had a lot of entertaining energy filled with movement, jumping up and down, smiles you could tell the band was having as good as a time as the crowd.

Hands from the crowd were up the entire time and even a few crowd surfers throughout the set could be found – a nice surprise I must say. Their setlist continued to the end with as much energy as they started with to complete a 19 song setlist which included hit songs “Falling” and “Time Bomb” among others.

The band also got a lot of help from the audience chanting lyrics to songs like “All In You”,  and with Micah’s solo performance of “No Letter” getting a lot of claps, and screaming girl fans. When the crowd wasn’t singing, everybody’s hands were in the air and body’s were swaying back and forth.
A great night I must say, reggae, maybe not so bad after all – though I’d like to tell myself this was a little more than the normal usual plain reggae
