Musink 2010 Day 2

I am a skater from way back when, and I didn’t realize that the singer of G.F.P... The guy that looks like the Big Lebowski, was actually Tony Alva!

Right before the group performed, people ran up from watching the skaters at the halfpipe to be front row for Tony Alva. He had a decent set – very hard from beginning to end. Except for a few references to getting high, smelling weed, or wanting to get high (I still can’t figure it out) there was not much interaction with the crowd. I did notice that in the middle of the set half the people that ran up were gone – but by the end when he announced the last song, they all came back!

When Final Conflict took the stage there wasn’t much of a crowd, but the more songs they played the more people joined. By the 5th song there were many groups of people all gathered around the stage. There was quite a bit of other stuff going on here too, not just music. They would crack jokes about beer, make fun of each other, there was a little problem with the bass players sound (his bass guitar wasn’t plugged into the amp!) but very entertaining group to watch i must say.

These next guys, The Sparing, made it difficult to be a photographer. I wanted to put my camera down and mosh with them! From the beginning they were interacting with the crowd, at times asking the skaters to get off the ramp because “Its my turn to fucking skate!”, running around from side stage to side, and after song 3 the singer started a mosh pit!

These guys were fun from beginning to end, and this is easily the most fun I have ever had watching a band I never knew before. And I can’t wait to see them again!

Be sure to check them out at this years Warped Tour!

I saw these next group of guys walking around and I should have known they were musicians. their attire should have told me something.  They dressed like Weezer might have if they were at Musink.

They were the first band at Musink to have keyboards and the electronic sounds of it flowed so well with the other instruments, it was impressive. Its very sad because not many people got to see them play – and they missed a great show. Somebody in the Coachella forums pointed out their cover of The Kinks hit "Tired Of Waiting For You".

The Head Cat, with Vocalist Lemmy of Motorhead and friends got people to show up to Musink. For the first time I saw a lot of people in the same place for one reason – a concert! These older cowboys know how to rock , and the crowd loves them. No moshing to this music but groups of people dancing throughout the crowd – especially the girls. All cover songs here but very entertaining. “Suzie Q” or “Rock This Town” anybody?

The Buzzcocks played a tasteful mix of crowd favorites which they ate up every second of. I don't know much about this band but I think I was the only one here who didn't, because everybody was really getting into it and select audience members were practicing for American Idol. The women definitely are enjoying the concert!

When The Damned was there I needed earplugs. Everybody went crazy – and rightfully so for this 70’s punk rock group from London.

They started the set with fan favorites “Fan Club” and “Nasty” – at which time it was almost impossible to get into the building. When they got to “Disco Man” everybody’s hands were in the air showing support for a band that is obviously loved by OC and tattoo enthusiasts alike.

When all is said and done, a security guard said it best regarding the easy going nature of the audience “This is a punk rock show, but on a scale of 1-10, this might be a 2. They don’t even need security”.

That might be true for Day 1 and Day 2 but I am for sure expecting crazy things tomorrow.

SEE YA TOMORROW NOFX, FACE 2 FACE, RIOT BRIDES !!!
